Aa Ja Ri Aa Nindiyaa - Do Beegha Zameen - 1953

This beautiful lullaby, with playback of Lata ji, is from film-maker par excellence Bimal 'da (Roy)'s Balraj Sahni-Nirupa Roy starrer 1953 social drama 'Do Beegha Zameen', with music that of the imitable Salil 'da & lyrics that of Shailendra saab. This song, picturized on Meena Kumari ji (the greatest actress IMO ever to grace Hindi cinema) and Nirupa Roy is a beautiful & everlasting number, one that is still so fresh after more than half-a-century. Meena ji, incidentally played a guest role in this movie with just an appearance in this song. Actress Nirupa Roy, who played the female lead in this movie, was in later years known more for portrayal of role of Amitabh Bachchan aka Big B's mother in classics like Deewar, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Suhaag etc. BTW, Nirupa ji was born Kokila Kishorechandra Balsara and after marriage to Kamal Roy in 1946 started her career in acting which spanned almost five decades, with her last appearence in Big B's 1999 flick 'Lal Badshah'.
